The British Film Institute (BFI) is Great Britain’s leading film archive and brings together important collections of film, audio and video content, the BFI National Archive.

As one of the very few companies worldwide, dc1 is entrusted with the digitisation of content in accordance with the high British Film Institute (BFI) requirements and within the scope of these eye-catching projects.

In 2021 dc1 was once again successfully selected for another three years by the BFI as a preferred supplier for Audio Visual Services. dc1 and the British Film Institute have now been working successfully together for more than 10 years.

Regulated by Royal Charter, the BFI has cultural, creative and industrial functions to preserve and promote film and television in the UK.

The BFI Unlocking Film Heritage Programme, launched by the British Film Institute in 2012, was one of the most eye-catching international projects. The programme for the preservation and dissemination of a unique cinematic and cultural heritage covers nearly one million publications from more than 100 years of film history. It includes film classics such as "The Third Man" or "Lawrence of Arabia" as well as tens of thousands of documentaries of British life.

Further to the above dc1 has also been selected for the prestigious “Heritage 2022” Video Digitisation Project. This project started in 2017 and in 2021 dc1 was selected again as a preferred supplier.

A large part of the content of this internationally relevant project is already integrated by the British Film Institute in a worldwide accessible portal, “the BFI Player”. Almost 25 million people already have access to these important films. These often-unique historical testimonies include films from the individual eras, formats and materials as well as a wide variety of image sources, among them more than 1.3 million photographs digitised by dc1.
